Before anything else, let me just define (this for a friend) the phrase. My friend Lericah asked me a good question which gave me pause, she asked, 'We've been using the phrase URBAN LEGEND for so long, but can you really define what it is?'
Well, the best that I could come up with at that exact moment was, "a tale so often told that coming from
being a gossip, it is now believed to be a fact". After looking it up though, I found out that that answer is not necessarily true.
Let me say how the online dictionaries put it: this is a secondhand tale which is supposedly true, and it is "believable" enough, and usually tells of a frightening or embarrassing set of events.
True or not, to be called as an "urban legend", the story is supposed to be embraced as a true story. Instead of proof, the storyteller would use on his skills in verbal narration, among other things.
Having said that, this roulette story, while called as an urban legend by some folks, is actually not, for it has been
featured in the news...and even YouTube for that matter. Hang on folks, just the first of a series.
